Who Should You Vote For?

Who Should You Vote For?

Oh I'm looking forward to this general election! It's the first time I'll be able to vote and I intendto make full use of my democratic right.

I urge anyone who can to do so too. If the whole country got off their bottoms and voted, then we might see a change for good in this country.

I'm leaning towards LibDem atm, as voting for them would be true to my current views, as a would be student. Now whether they'd be better for the whole country I don't know.

Higher taxation for people who earn more than £100k seems fair to me. If they earn that much, they can afford to contribute more to the running of the country.

What I'd really like to see is money being used effectively. The school system is pants, and as someone who's nearly finished with it, I have lots of horror stories. The NHS, once our national pride and joy is crippled. If Mr Blair can suddenly find £200million to sort out school dinners, the latest celeb campaign, then why can't is suddenly find £200millon to renovate a few hospital wards or buy my school science books it sorely needs?

Why has Mr Blair lied to us so often? Top Up Fees for example? If Labour get back into power I'm going to be saddled with more debt for studying to be a secondary school teacher, another much needed service. LibDem all the way with that one! Maybe teachers should get their tuition fees paid like someone who wants to become a doctor/nurse/midwife.

ANYHOO

Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for?

Labour -15
Conservative -17
Liberal Democrat 36
UK Independence Party 10
Green 20

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

The LibDems take a strong stand against tax cuts and a strong one in favour of public services: they would make long-term residential care for the elderly free across the UK, and scrap university tuition fees. They are in favour of a ban on smoking in public places, but would relax laws on cannabis. They propose to change vehicle taxation to be based on usage rather than ownership.

Take the test at Who Should You Vote For

*Edit* I'm fuming now....no one told me, and I didn't see it in the papers, or online, or anywhere. To be able to vote in the May 05 elections you had to register by 11th March 2005.

It says on http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk that a during the 'annual canvas' a form would have been put through the door so everyone in my household could register. Well we didn't get one. I'm going to hassle some people now... I'm ANGRY!!!!!!

It's not fair though. Under this kind of system, people who are making more lose so much from taxes that they do not reap the benefit of what they sow. Its not that they just get taxed a bit more- they are barraged with taxes. Sure we can say, "Well, they don't NEED those big houses, cars, private schools, etc" but that's not the point. If we raise their taxes simply because they make more, then they will struggle paying the mortgage, tuition fees, etc for the things they have. Why not take a certain percentage from everyone and then we all lose a fair amount based on our wages? One thing I hated about Republicans in America was their "rich get richer, poor get poorer" policies--but I hated the Democrats for their "poor stay poor, rich get poorer, too".

Eh, just my thoughts when I read that. :)
