yesterday

Right so this is yesterday lunch
time. Chris and a giant plate of
food, donuts Uncle Nick and Auntie
Vicky bought for the flat, Lewis'
amazing hair. Chris and Marsh
shouting about something.
Lewis' hair again.

Piccies of my room

The water stain where my radiator leaked!

My very messy desk area - just like home.

My bed and pinboard, which has since been reorganiszed as I knocked the pic lowest on the board off in my sleep.

Well this reading thing is a malarky. I can do it! yay!

As for knitting, the arisaig is on hold till I can photo blog my efforts and ask for advice. I'm knitting this wee shawl thing for someone. Blue and lacy and lovely.

Loads of people here requiring knitting type attention. Hats for cold heads, scarves and woolley socks all required. See we're students. Can't afford heat!

I have to be a hairdresser too.

It's all good.

Found a hug buddy for lonely days as well, Chris my next door neighbour. He's going to be my dancing partner as well so I don't feel left out when the flat goes out. He plays violin too - what is it with me and musical friends?

Missing Rob like crazy. Missing in jokes, laughter and familiar smells. I must work out what washing powder he uses. That's a little more subtle than spraying myself with lynx. I love my man. So much.

You

I'm alive and well and relatively happy.

I've created a routine, and I'm knitting again.

And I don't feel the need to post yet.

But I'll be back.

It feels more like home now.

More flat mates :-

Dave - is quiet, and polite, and everso everso in the nicest way possible a bit of a nerd. Poor thing got beaten up on the way home the other night.

Elisa - Loud from London, short, pretty, a singer doing music.

Erin - A Christian from round here who wanted to stay close to her home church. Bonde in the funniest way poss.

I feel settled, I've started calling it home.

I'm just about to start doing my washing.

I've dressed people up as school childrend, I've cooked and frozen food for myself. I've even had my first lectures. Which were introductionry ones and therefore boring.

Strangely, though I got my choice of WW1, I've been assigned to Early Jewish Magic rather than Childhood and Youth in Early Modern Britain. This is going to be interesting. Now when I was trying ot choose my options, this one did stand out at me as if bolded, like God was tryingot say somethig, but I ignored it as I didn't think it'd be applicable to any of my further studies.

But I'm on it anyway. I wonder what God's going to try and teach me.

I met a mature student on my course today. His name is Geoff. 50ish, ex - army, with a Latvian (I think that's right) father. The man is fascinating. And he's a nice not shove it in your face Christian. So far that's 2 on my floor, one in the room below and one on my course at least. God is looking after me.

I'm going to the circus society tonight. Should be fun. What does one wear to that I wonder?

But you know what sucks?

Really sucks?

Missing Rob.

I've been hanging out with Ruth and Sam and their friend. And man do couples make you sick in the nicest way. In jokes, having someone to hug you, company when you need it, understanding when you don't. I miss companionship. Specifically yours Rob.

Especially the sick sense of humour ;-)

Day 3 - I might survive.

Fortunately the people on my floor are lovely.

There's Sam, music student, in a long term relationship with Ruth who's also here to do music but not in this building, plays spanish guitar and sings tenor and cooks me bacon in the morn.

There's Chris who's quiet and always listening but always interested and genuine.

There's Amy who's an ex of a friend from home who has cool tattoos and does martial arts...

and loud london Amey who went backpacking in NZ for a year and who I don't think has slept yet.

more People from hall in my next post - I'll keep you waiting.

I feel settled now. Everything is unpacked and lovely and homey. I've cooked a proper meal. Made a friend. Told people about knitting. Ridden my bike. Registered!

Here I am

with tears in my eyes, as I am all alone for the first time in my life.

I've unpacked most of my stuff, Rob's only just left, but I feel lonely.

I don't want to go to the bar, the kind of people I feel comfortable with won't be there. I'll get smokey and I hate smelling of smoke.

Maybe I'll go cook something later.

I hope it gets better than this.

Baby knitting.

I'd forgotten how quickly you can knit things for babies. That something you can knit in a few hours can be so satifying.

Baby booties rock.

Any knitted requests out there?

Packing

Grr I hate hate hate it!

I'm packing for uni. I have stuff everywhere. And man does it seem like so much stuff. Too much stuff. Stuff everywhere. How many tops/jeans will I need?

I have a room full of things to go with me. Most of it is food that my rents kindly bought me, but it seems a huge amount. I need to put it all in boxes so it looks tidy.

I might not be a tidy person but i like things to look tidy. At least look it.

Hence why I'm squeezing all my clothes into one bag....Help me!

Pared down blogging.

I write better without the distractions of the full post creating mumbo jumbo. I write better when using the 'blog this' button from the Google Toolbar. Could anyone explain why?

Now then, now then.

I went to an acoustic night last night at Jon's. The A- Foo- Stics were playing, which should give you some idea of the set list. The Foo's held sway and it was heart breakingly beautiful, particularly on 'Best of You' where Jon's voice cracked and he had to laugh and it just made me sad to think that I'm leaving. Especially Lizzy, who's always the side kick in such enterprises. Best woman material no doubt.

I'm happier now about all that. Of course I don't want to leave Rob. In fact I cry a little each time I think about it, but Scott and Lori, bless their cotton socks give me heart. If they can sustain a relationship with oceans in the way, then Rob and I can manage an hour and a half's drive. It will be fine. :)

I've been reading books from my list, half heartedly packing as I hate packing, and finding out all sorts of people I know are going round my way so I won't be lonely. Everyone seem to be afraid I'll turn into a recluse. I'm sure that won't happen, but I'm looking forward to some alone time in a way. Having always lived with lots of people, it'll be nice to have some space that no one can walk into without my key.

Rob went to a JJ72 concert last night and fell in 'love' with their bass player. The fickle man;) Just coz she's hot and in a band. Joking aside they are a great band.

Last night

Gosh almighty!

We had our first band practice for the youth service when I'm being worship leader... it was incredible.

These kids are 12 - 14 and they sound amazing - Rob was excellent getting everyone motiviated and organised, we learnt 2 songs in 2 hours!

I felt proud watching him. This man who I'm going to marry. He's working away at something he's passionate about. Being professional. Teaching these little people big things in a way they can pick up first time round.

I'm happy today.

I want to dance - but i have to go get money out for my driving lesson.

Just writing by

Stream of consciousness mind splut time.

I've finished working. No more money is coming into this account. Things, oh I don't know, things, are pottering by. It is less than a month till I leave for university and I don't want to go.

By that sentence you must have realised that I passed my Alevels. 3 A's and a B. Yadda, yadda, yawn. You know I feel hurt. And lonely. I actually typed lovely first there, But I don't feel that. I've been out of sorts since forever.

I'm pleased I did well and cross at the same time. I don't want to go now at all. I'm scared. Really scared. I've wanted this since I knew what university meant, since I knew what I could achieve.

I screwed up a few weeks ago. I went to a party alone. Rob didn't want to come. For some reason, no good reason, because I could and it was there, I just drank and drank and drank till I blacked out and can't remember what I did. I don't know how I got home. My friends rang to my parents.

And I am so ashamed of it. I can't live with myself. Rob went mental, as he was well within his rights to do so. Fortunately, I did nothing apart from get drunk to shame him also, but I can't live like this. I'm glad I did it here and not there, the horrible there, where anyone could have done anything. He put me on a two week probation which finished at the end of our holiday. I had to show him I was worth his time and effort.

I passed thank God.

I sacrificed my holiday to him, I worked hard to make sure he could see I love him. I bit my tongue. It's been like I've forgotten how to love and feel and be anything good really. So I tried and it worked, there in the cool Irish mists and mountains.

God was there, you know? I've been running so far away from him, desperate to be normal, to have a life. I don't like the plans he has for me and I know inside I have to surrender to them, but I don't want them. I don't want to have to lived here in Wiltshire where all is desolate. I don't want anything but a happy marriage and a house and a dog and a baby. All things I am so unworthy of all things I don't deserve. I am just wrong . Just wrong.

I don't want to go. I'm so scared. I can't talk to anyone about this. Rob just brushes over it, saying it's what you've always wanted. My friends, my so called, say you'll enjoy when you're there. My parents say you can't not go just because it's complicated.

But I feel like I can't cope with all the money things, I feel like I'm going to get into lots and lots of debt. I fell like I won't know what to do or say.

I don't how I'll cope being away from Rob especially when things are all new and growing again.

It will be three years on the 15th. I want another 50, another 100. I'll be 19 soon too. I don't want a party or anything or presents or cake. I just wish everything would become transparent. So I could see through it, so I could understand it.

And not feel like this.

Possible wedding music

Rob gave me some happy and welcome new over this weekend.

He said to me, that no matter what happens in the next few month, we can begin planning the wedding officially in March of next year.

He got a great new job see, and a promotion on top of that, making him a Band D in the Ministry of Defense and a start of a career.

So things seem more stable.

These 7 months before the almighty plan begins give me time to think through possibles, and the below are possible pieces of music to play in the church before the service begins.

Passacaglia - by Bear McCready - from the Battlestar Galactica OST
Pavane - by Regina Cater - It's a jazz version of the famous Pavane, very moving.
Jupiter - by Holst - For sheer exuberance
Sleepers Awake - by Bach - I'm walking down the aisle to this. It's so powerful and different.

Lets get ipods people!

It works - I've seen the proof.

And in other worlds, a friends who I encouaged to dance, Luke had been accepted into a youth dance academy and hopes to be a pro dancer. It's great! Especially as his rents were never especially supportive and hes just wowed them ! Full credit to our teacher Miss Brewer for encouraging him and helping him believe in himself.

A knittish post

With pictures to follow when I've taken them.

Currently at work waiting for something to do. My waist height filing pile is gone, my delivery notes filed, my storage files made, I am FileGirl - want to patent me?

I finished my lovely socks, I think they were in Socka Mexico - I loved the stripes they made. Nice and warm. It was my first experience of cuff down socks and I think I prefer toe up, being able to try it on as you go is better. Besides in self striping yarn heel flaps look well flappy.... :-)

I made a teeny lace phone cozy in green acrylic for my mobile. It kept getting scratched and that isn't an option. It's got diagonal lines of eyelets in stripes around it. I decided to try out different sorts of decrease after my YO. I like the slip one passover one - cleaner lines!

Currently working on a little wrap cardithing for a friend in blue mohair. Making up a pattern as you go along is very fun....

The Clapotis is okay - the decrease rows now - bit boring but looks lovely.

Next in the mix more socks maybe solid colour with a lace pattern, and then a possible blanket for some recently married internet people.

For becky about ms lewis

She's a star
who lit my life
she showed how ambitious
gives you wings
Telling me I'm beautiful
showed me that
inside is better than
outside
this world she'll soar
reaching
metting her challange
she faces
motherhood
and joy
she showed me how to believe in me
and my ability
and how to hide within your self
and draw love and magic
out of nothing but ideas

How can you thank someone for that?

I'm a free woman and man does it feel strange.

No more rushing home to do homework
No more revision
No more registration or assemblies
No more schooly -ness

Will I miss it?

I'm not sure. I loved my time at school, but I feel ready now for a new challenge.

My little history class.. Who's moaning about class sizes now?

The ball has been and gone, all I have to wait for now is results day. I'm currently working at my dad's office as the junior and earning lots of money for an 18 yr old with no experience. At £6.50 an hour tax free I earn more thanmy mum with her 20yrs + as a nursery nurse. Something is so not right there.

where I fell and split my lip

This is my friend Lizzy and I posing whilst the majority of the sixth form pretended to be sad. I wasn't sad. Well until they read'that road less travelled' poem. That gets me every time...

*lump*

Anyway back to the ball...

The sun id shining!

So I've got hayfever...but I can willingly suffer this for the feel of warmth on my skin. I used hate summer, the sweat, the unflattering clothes, the way people expect you to be happy because it's summer.

But all this has changing, since I lost a bit of weigh I sweat less and finding my dream deoderant helps too...not really your usual blog content but I want to sing the praises of this Sanex Extra Dry stuff. It really works, it kind to your skin and it comes in this cool packaging, ensuring the ball is always downwards meaning every last drop get used. Top marks, and only 99p at my work.

Except it own't be my work for much longer. I handed my notice in on Monday. As of the 27th I no longer work there :-) Which is good as I start work as temporary holiday relief on the phones at Dad's office. No more shelf stacking for me. If you should phone Pickfords Removals and Storage, Bath you shall be talking to me first.. not that I'm fond of phones so it will be interesting.

As for knitting...there was a really interesting article in the times on Saturday about how in some school in the US ADHD kids are being giving knitting to do to focus them and how knitting is relaxing. Nothing new to us knitters, but ressuring to know the rest of the world is catching on.
Click for more
As for other crafty endevours, I'm working on some secret projects for some birthdays this weekend too. I hope they turn out alright.

I've had three out my four final exams and after my last minute full scale panic attack I'm wel into the swing of them and so looking forward to finishing. I want a summer!!! lol

Love to all

As for other crafty endevours, I'm working on some secret projects for some birthdays this weekend too. I hope they turn out alright.

I've had three out my four final exams and after my last minute full scale panic attack I'm wel into the swing of them and so looking forward to finishing. I want a summer!!! lol

Love to all

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my black terror

Black Terror is an anagram of Rob's full name. Scary huh?

And it's his birthday today, he's 23...:-) Bless 'im. Man I lurve him so much the evil demon boy that he is.

So send him birthday wishes with the telepathy you must have.

Funny week here in Alexland. Saturday last week was Rob's early party...pictures follow below. We had scaletrix, twister, dance mats, tents, ping pong and beer. Good times, and Rob seemed to enjoy himself, which was the whole point!

Jon who had had his lip pierced that day was off the alcohol and so was talking to a puppet

Lizzy managed two bottles of white on her own..*gasp*

Some of Spiderbaby...good luck for battle of the bands!

The party didn't end at mine, a whole load of us went to Lizzy's, where she spent her time telling us not to go into the kitchen as her cat was sleeping, and asking us where we got the bread from. [She has a large pink bread bin with "Bread" written on the side.]

Fronk, Rob and I stayed, more to keep an eye on her i think than anything else. Unfortuantely, Rob had an allergic reactio to Lizzy's cats and had an asthma attack. This resulted in little sleep for him, me waking Lizzy at 6am to ask if she had any antihistimines, then me walking to the Tesco Express and buying them along with fruit juice and sausages for brekkie. I make a mean sausage sandwhich.

It's a week full of revision for me as my first exams are on monday the 20th.

Ooh...can you pray/think positive thoughts/do whatever you do in this situation for my nana, and Rob's nan? Both are in hospital atm. Rob's nan has a suspected cancer, so his mum is in Peterborough to see her, thus missing his birthday, and my nana fell and broke her wrist and kneecap. Both are very special ladies, and mean alot to us and we want them at the wedding dammit!

Dance essay

Identify two live professional dance performances that you have seen recently. Compare these in terms of style, subject matter, movement content, structure, personnel and physical setting.

Two live performances that I have been privileged to see during my A Level studies are ‘Such Longing’ by Richard Alston and ‘Flesh and Blood/Double Take’ double bill by Lea Anderson. I saw the Cholmondeleys and the Featherstonehaughs perform Anderson’s work at the Merlin Theatre, Frome, in 2004, and Alston’s work performed by his company, Richard Alston Dance Company at the Theatre Royal, Bath, in 2005.

Alston and Anderson are very different choreographers, Alston being a very classical movement material driven contemporary choreographer. Anderson is a postmodern choreographer and her work tries to shed all the ‘traditional’ aspects of contemporary dance.

‘Such Longing’ is a very lyrical piece created by Alston to an accompaniment of Chopin Nocturnes and Etudes. Alston was inspired by the feelings in the music and the story of Chopin’s love affair and memories of his homeland. In complete contrast, Anderson’s double bill was to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her dance career, and to see if it was possible for her male company, the Featherstonehaughs to dance a work created for her female company, the Cholmondeleys and vice versa.

‘Double Take’ has a bright, almost realistic lighting design, which reminds me of a nightclub or a party. ‘Such Longing’ contrasts with this double bill as it is performed under a dreamy, subtle lighting design in soft purples and blues, fitting for it’s romantic subject matter. The physical setting differs enormously too. ‘Double Take’ in front of a gold foil fringe curtain as fits the cabaret style of this piece. There are tables and chairs on the side of the stage for the dancers to sit on whilst not performing, and beer and cigarettes. Alston’s dancers remain off stage in a traditional dance manner. Anderson’s set design fits with her post modern style, effectively breaking the dance rules by leaving everything on show and bringing the dancers back stage beer and cigarettes on stage.

Alston uses classically driven movement vocabulary. In the first solo for a male dancer there is use of arabesque with leans in and out of this position, in the second solo for a male dancer the movement becomes more fluid with distinctive upturned palms during hand gestures. There are a series of duets, and during one of these, the female dancer leans back over the male dancers thigh before plunging backwards creating an arched shape has her head hangs by her heels. There is also use of a repeated motif in a duet where the male dancer holds the female dancer under her arms, and she sinks into a deep plié in first, her heels lifting from the floor.

Anderson’s movement vocabulary has evolved from the study of pedestrian movement. Her piece is created from a number of short sections. In the first of these, the dancers stand in a grid formation, and perform a karaoke style number with each dancer singing a line in turn before passing the microphone and long lead to next dancer in a series of inventive ways. Between singing their lines, the dancer pose in ever changing typical posture of a karaoke bar, from nervous stances to full blown arms out stretched ‘look at me’ shapes. They also change position within their grid formation. In the ‘Barstools’ section, 3 dancers take the stage with their barstools, and perform a series of every day gestures, such as miming drinking, campily pointing their fingers at imaginary friends in a ‘you the man’ pose and falling drunkenly from their stools. These are repeated in canon and in unison and become more and more exaggerated throughout the section developing from mere pedestrian movement to full blown dance. In the last section of the dance, the dancers take to the stage individually, and each have a ‘Fame’ like moment, showing off their favourite moves, bursting with exuberance.

There is also a difference in costume; the dancers in Alston’s piece wear simple trousers and dresses in muted tones that match the lighting. They allow easy movement and do not distract the dancers or the audience. Anderson’s dancers in ‘Double Take’ have various suits in tweedy fabrics in a range of brown shades. They dance in leather brogues and wear ties. The Alston dancers dance exclusively in bare feet, the reintroduction of shoes into dance being a postmodern device. The suits of the Anderson’s dancers limit their movement, and as the piece progresses various items such as the ties and jackets are removes as the section require.

As for personnel, the dancers chosen by Richard Alston are all of the similar build and stature providing a pleasing uniformity to his company, something that suits the style of his work. Anderson chose women of varying heights and builds and used these in her choreography to comic effect, for example during the first section following a tall, blond dancer with a deep voice with a small, bird like dancer with a very high pitched voice.

Over all, Alston’s work is far more serious in tone, as the accompaniment and the subject matter would dictate. The feelings expressed in the music are treated sensitively by Alston’s choreography. Anderson’s work is positively irreverent, and intentionally provokes laughter in the audience at times. She uses the familiar pedestrian gestures to subtly poke fun at habits and mannerism the audience can recognise in themselves.

‘A good dance technician is not necessarily the best dancer.’ Outline the characteristics of a good dance technician and discuss the skills, other than those of technique, which make a good dancer.

Dance is a holistic art form, requiring the practitioner to have a wide range of skills. These skills fall in two categories, technical skills and expressive skills. In this essay I will look at the skills that make a good dancer, and the skills that a good dance technician will possess.

Firstly the good dancer technician is someone who has mastered the technical skills of dance at a high level. These skills are core stability, balance, alignment, posture, kinaesthetic awareness, control, flexibility and strength. Possessing these all of these skill to a high standard would make the person a perfect dancer physically.

Having good core stability and control would mean the person would be able to direct the way their body moves, ensuring the movement was always performed in the right way. Good core stability would compliment the person’s good posture and alignment, ensuring the body was always in the correct dynamic position of readiness for dance.
High levels of flexibility and strength would work in tandem, allowing the person a wide range of movement in their joints, with the power behind the movement to sustain it and hold it in a range of positions. Kinaesthetic awareness allows the person to know what their body is doing without being able to see it, for example, the person being aware of where their leg is whilst performing an arabesque behind them. This would help the person with spacing in a dance environment.

The dance technician might be able to execute the movements perfectly, yet with out expressive skill the dance would appear soulless and dead to the audience. The expressive skills of dance are musicality, focus, projection

Finally a new post.

I know this is pure laziness on my part, but I blog when the desire strikes.

And it's struck.

On the knitting side - I'm in a show in July as Aslan the Lion in The Magician's Nephew, and have a Cats style CATSUIT!! Which involves furry leg warmers and glovelets. Now the knitting wasn't difficult, 10mm needles, chunky yellow cotton yarn from a charity shop. It's the crochet hooking the little yarn pieces on to the yellow fabric that bores me. Oh well I'm sure it'll look effective on stage.

Most of my life recently has been revising, I'm unsure how far i'm gettgin along but the basic knowledge is there, and I'm trusting God to help me out. I hate panicking in exams. I really really want to show the world that Christians can be sucessful and that God honours hard work. I hope I working hard enough to beat my predicitions. I know I can do it.

I've also been looking after Rob a bit. He needs some tender loving care what with his bike injury playing up again. It's nice being a nurse, getting icepacks and drinks, though whining "I want a drink!" like a petulant child just makes me laugh and stand around doing nothing til I get aplease. We've been being silly recently, just making each other laugh and boy is it good to laugh.

I saw some people today walking out their lesson in a huge group, laughing and joking in the sunshine.

I find it hard because alot of my friends from school are into stuff i don't really like, like getting drunk etc... There isn't really anyone around Rob's age either who isn't down the pub every weekend. We get on really well with the couple I babysit for, but we can't really be friends with them as they pay me. I'd gladly look after their kids for free, and when they get i form going out, we often end up sitting chatting for an hour. Brent paraglides and is going to take Rob up on a tandem when the weathers good again. I'd love to have a go, but I'm not sure how much I'd love to..lol

Revsion Time

..is here. I'm four weeks behind last year, and yet I'm still here. Methinks my priorities are not straight.

Though I have just looked over mt transport vocab for my French exam. Go Alex! Tonight I have an hour to work on history too. Berlin blockcade and airlift for definate. Depending on what we go through in lessons of course. School decided no one was going to have study leave this year so I have to fit all this in my frees and after school. Makes it slightly difficult as I can't carry everything to school everyday. Like a years worth of notes.

Rob is being a sweety tonight and dropping me at work, saving me a mad rush. I think he has to take a video back or something.

Knitting news:-
  • Started a Clapotis in some cheap variagated acrylic. I am so NOT a yarn snob. It's lovely, orange, pinky red, purple and black blend.
  • Have two lace scarves on the go, one in dk mohair, one in fingering weight wool.
  • Am thinking of doing a coronet from knitty on a stone colour.

The art exam comes to a close...

I've painted a big picture A1 size, of my Rob from various angles playing his guitar, in warms oranges and yellows and red, with blue and white for contrast. No black because I hate using black in a painting. I feel lit makes things look dead. It's recognisably him, even if it doens't look accurate. So I'm happy.

I'm going to do a sillk painting now...

It's so unfair.

Please note I am extremely angry at the world for it's injustice towards me. I know people are dying of hunger and there are loads of economic problems.

At the moment I'm distraught because the holiday we had planned with some people i know has fallen through. They split up, and so because we're christians and have to keep away from the appearance of evil and not be left alone at any stupid time means that ive wasted about £400.

Only now they're back together and seem to be going to Reading. How conveniant. I feel evil for even thinking this. They so obvious;ly didn't want to come with us and will have abetter time at Reading.

Leave me and Rob with the problem of £180 missing from my uni fund, because we had to buy the ferry tickets early. So what's my legal status? DO they have to pay me? is it polite to pay me back since they were adamant they wanted to come?

We asked some other friends, but the guys rents aren't happy with it, and the girl won't come on her own. Atm i'm willing to pay for another friend to come and keep her company.

If it wasn't for the fact Rob has to live with his rent, i'd go on our own in the blink of an eyelid.

I don't care if anyone reading htis thinks i'm a cold hearted selfish blanket blank. Heck I know I am. Just for once, just for effing once, I would like something I organise to go right. I'd like to be able have a nice time. I'd like to go away without my rents like normal people do.

Why do people assume we're going to sleep together? For goodness sake. We've been together for 2 years+. We've had ample opportunity. We've been left home alone and you didn't come back to find us at it like bunnies. We have self control. We're coping. We've fallen asleep int he back of a truck. Nothings happenned? What is your problem? It's like you want me to fail so you can gloat.

Okay rant over.

We've been left home alone and you didn't come back to find us at it like bunnies. We have self control. We're coping. We've fallen asleep int he back of a truck. Nothings happenned? What is your problem? It's like you want me to fail so you can gloat.

Okay rant over.
